The holy prophet, Baruch is recalled liturgically today.

The holy prophet is simply honored with a troparion: “Today, we honor your prophet, Baruch, O Lord: By his prayers, save our souls.”

Baruch was a companion of Jeremiah. He most likely also served as his scribe. His own book was written while in exile in Babylon. It was sent to Jerusalem to be read on feast days to inspire repentance. It expresses the themes of prayer, devotion to the Law, a thirst for retribution and messianic hope. (NS)

Saint Baruch, pray for us.
